Bento Of The Week

Hi there.

It's getting cooler, isn't it?

Let's eat well and stay healthy this winter!

12th Tuesday Mini onigiri rice balls, rolled omelet with spinach and boiled carrots. My kids love onigiri rice balls! (cooked rice and seasoned seaweed.) Sometimes I also put tuna in onigiri. Boiled carrot is really sweet, I boiled with vegetable soup stock then sauteed with butter. I was happy my daughter ate it all! However, my son who is 3 is very very fussy about his food! I need to think about more recipes using vegetables for my kids.

BENTO BOWL LUNCH BOX IDEA

It's been getting cold recently.

It makes me feel like something hot to eat, soup would be great for lunch, so I made a great soup Bento lunch.

 Mushroom soup and garden salad

Mushroom soup and garden salad

This is just caned soup from super market. I would usually make my own soup but I was in a rush, Instead of a garden salad, broccoli and boiled egg salad works just as well.

I like this bowl it is  really versatile, definitely recommended!

Karaage (japanese fried chicken) bento is very popular in Japan.

Umeboshi (pickled plum) goes perfectly with rice.

Historically Japanese people put Umeboshi on rice to keep it from spoiling.

Oribe-ware Ceramics

Oribe Furate was a Daimyo (Feudal Lord) and a master of the tea ceremonies during the Momoyama era (1573 - 1603) and inspired this type of Mino-ware.

Oribe-ware has distinctive characteristics including a green glaze and unbalanced lines that resemble dripping water. Many of the designs are based on every day life and natural environments around us.

The uneven finish of this style of ceramic has come to be seen in Jpanese culture as having a richly expressive beuty.
